And it drew me back from a place farther into Fire than anyone has returned from.† â€Å"I am not strong enough,† she said. She had never said this aloud to anyone before – anyone but her bees. â€Å"I know too little, and I do not learn fast enough. Will you assent to this?† While they were talking the bees had, as usual, come to see who Mirasol’s visitor was. But a more than usual number of them had settled on him, and had not flown away again. This was not their usual behaviour, but she was too disturbed and confused by the conversation to have paid proper attention; nor had she noticed that their humming note had changed. â€Å"Oh – I did not think,† she said. â€Å"The bees – they probably do not like the smell of fire on you.† He made a sudden movement – exactly the sort of sudden movement you should not make when surrounded by half-agitated bees. His hand had gone to his forearm, bare above the wrist, and she realised one had stung him – stung the Master. Several thoughts flew frantically into her mind simultaneously: this was why a Chalice was never of honey; but no Master had ever smelt of fire as this one did; what law was there about a Chalice who caused injury to her Master? â€Å"Don’t – don’t – â€Å" But he hadn’t tried to crush the bee that stung him. He was holding her, very gently, against his forearm, with the tip of one finger. â€Å"There, little one, that’s not necessary. Don’t wriggle so, you’ll do yourself fatal harm. Your sting is barbed, you know, you have to tease it out slowly†¦.† He raised his finger, and one rather tired and dazed bee flew away. None of the others had stung him, and after a few seconds they all too began to fly away, in little groups of twos and threes; and their hum had steadied and deepened again to its usual note. â€Å"You know something of bees,† she said. He looked at her, and something more like a human smile than the last time she had seen the corners of his mouth curl upwards changed his face. It seemed to quiet the flicker, as if the hum of the bees had a calming effect on this too. â€Å"A bee sting is very like fire, is it not?† She smiled too, hesitantly. â€Å"I suppose it is. Are you – â€Å" â€Å"Hurt? Harmed?† he said. â€Å"No. It is very difficult to burn a priest of Fire, although it can be done.† She said, â€Å"I am glad that when you were sent away you went to Fire.† Again she had spoken unthinkingly, in the carelessness of relief, but he replied readily: â€Å"A bee could not sting a third-level priest of Earth any more than she could sting a thirty-year-old oak. A bee could not sting a third-level priest of Air any more than she could sting a sunbeam.† Think before you speak, she said to herself fiercely, but aloud she said immediately, â€Å"A thirty-year-old oak cannot be transplanted and live; and what happens to the light when a cloud passes in front of the sun? I am still glad, if you had to be sent away, you went to Fire. You walk on the earth and you cast a shadow; you speak in ordinary words and – and you can be stung by a bee. You are more human than you fear.† She could see him considering how to refute her words; but the silence stretched to a minute and at last he said only, â€Å"Thank you.† â€Å"Honey – † she began again. â€Å"Yes. You were going to give me some honey.† That was not what she had been about to say, and she was bewildered for a moment. Then she recalled herself, and gestured at the tray. â€Å"I didn’t know how you would like it.† â€Å"What would you recommend?† She opened her mouth, closed it again. Opened it again, said resolutely, â€Å"Straight out of the jar.† She handed him a spoon, and the jar. â€Å"There are two spoons.† â€Å"I will have some too, if you permit.† And he laughed. It was a creaky, crackly noise, and if she had not been already much accustomed to the strangeness of him, she might not have realised that was what she was hearing; it sounded rather like the noises a fire makes burning sappy wood. But she did realise, and she smiled. â€Å"You are Master,† she said. â€Å"And you are Chalice, and the first, so far as we know, Chalice of honey, and it is your honey. I am honoured to taste it, and will it not†¦will it not make the bond necessary between us stronger to eat a little of your honey together?† Involuntarily she glanced at the back of her right hand, where, sometimes, when the light was just right or just wrong, there was a faint scar visible. â€Å"It is not fitting nor desirable that the bond began with hurt,† she said. â€Å"But it did begin then, when your hand slipped on the cup of welcome.† â€Å"It is a strange Mastership and a strange Chalicehood,† he replied. â€Å"The last Master and Chalice died ill, and without Heir or apprentice. We are making new ways because we must. We have had one burning between us. Let us have the sweetness now.† Two, she thought. Two burns and two sweets. For it was a strange sweetness when you healed my hand; and one of my bees burnt you. Do you fear to overwhelm me? You shall not. And the land chose me without your will – while you still lay in Fire. Yes. Perhaps what we do is possible. Possibly I am strong enough. She realised she was smiling, and looked at him again, and when he smiled back, this time, it was unmistakably a smile, not merely the remains of an old human reflex not quite abolished by Fire. â€Å"Does honey always make one smile?† he asked, as if it were a serious question. â€Å"Yes,† she said firmly. â€Å"Yes, it does. With your permission, Master, I will give you some to take back to the House with you. Do not let Ponty know you carry it!† The night the Onora Grove burned she had been sleeping fitfully, for there was a ferocious storm tearing at the landscape, and the earthlines were uneasy. When the lightning struck not far from her cottage, she was out of bed and dragging on her clothes before she had thought of anything she might do. Even after it had occurred to her that she needed to have thought of something to do – and could still think of nothing – she went anyway, snatching up the smallest and plainest of the Chalice cups off the shelf as she passed, one that had no specific meaning or duty, and stuffing it down one pocket in her cloak; a small jar of honey went into the pocket on the other side. When she opened her door and stepped out the rain felt strangely warm against her face, but the wind buffeted her like a blow from a fist and she stumbled, holding on to her door-handle for balance. She scuttled down the path from her door, leaning against the blustering gusts. The wind was behind her as she turned onto the main path, which was wide and smooth enough for wagons, so she ran, clutching her skirt and the ends of her cloak against the force of the gale. The rain drove against her, through the cloak, through her clothing, to her skin. The sky was turning red as she sprinted toward the grove, and through the roar of the wind she began to hear the hissing of the rain-lashed fire. The wind slewed around and the fog billowed out to meet her; her lungs hurt from smoke as well as running. She almost hurtled into the Master; in his black cloak he looked like more smoke and fog. She had not come far, but her legs were trembling with effort, and with fear. The Master was standing, apparently merely watching the fire; but he turned to her at once and said, â€Å"Good, you’re here,† as if he had been waiting for her – expecting her. â€Å"Can you bring me water from the stream?† It should have been hard to hear him through the sound of wind, rain and fire, but it was not; and his voice sounded calm and strong. I want to score better marks in this semester. This can be possible only if I devote more time into study (Jo, Kim Yoon, 2015). I have understood that managing time for this semester is crucial because unlike other semester, I will not get much time this semester unlike other semesters. Time management was not an issue for me and has never affected my grades, but I have always completed my syllabus in a hurry before every examination. This is the reason, I want to manage the time well and perform better in this semester. Time management is also a crucial managerial skill that is important for future success. In order to improve my management skills, managing time holds equal importance. I see myself as a successful leader. For a leader, managing time is very crucial along with managing the members of a team (Kimani, 2014). If I start improving my time management skills from now, I shall be able to manage my team and shall prove to be a good leader. Pre-test and Post-test measures: I will record the study time and other activities that I do regularly. Currently I spend less time for studies because I have to attend regular lecture classes and also have to do other regular activities. Moreover, I have also realised that the time that I spend for studies, is not enough to cover up the huge syllabus of the semester. This is the reason, I will record my activities and progress from time to time that will eventually help me to realise if any kind of change is required in the scheduling of my action plan. Week by week progress will be recorded (Rapp, Bachrach Rapp, 2013). This way I can easily keep a trace of my activities. I will implement the new schedule by 1st week and the activities will be recorded every week. By the end of 9th week, I believe that I will achieve my goals. Action Plan: Week Task Expected Outcome 1 Sketch out a plan for doing different activities and strictly follow the set To-do-list. This list has to be realistic enough that the framed plan can be easily carried on. It is important not to frame something unusual that would be tough to achieve and would ultimately lead to disappointment. I will be able to prioritise things and would be able to sketch a better To-do list for me. 2-4 I will follow the schedule and perform each task as the schedule. This way I would also be able to prioritise the tasks and shall continue with the schedule that suits the best. I will able to manage time for every task. It is only when other tasks get scheduled I shall be able to devote more time in studies. 5 If required certain changes can be made in the schedule and the timing can be changed or restructured. This re-scheduling has to be done quickly with proper care because there shall be no scope to waste time for creating another to-do-list (Beausaert et al., 2013). It is expected, not many changes will be made because the prior list will be made with much consciousness. Better management of time can be done. It is expected that if changes are made in the schedule, it would bring betterment in the overall planning. 6-8 Continue with the proposed schedule and study more. As my focus is to increase the study hours, scheduling would prioritise studies and not other activities. I would also reduce spending time with my friends because I have observed that a lot of time is wasted with them. I would be able to complete the syllabus of my course. The aim is not only to complete the syllabus but also to do revision of the same to get in depth knowledge and understanding of the subject. 9 Check the improvement. The result of the action plan will be obtained by the end of the 9th week. I can easily check my improvements if I would be able to do the task according to my plans. It is only by checking that how much I have been able to complete my course syllabus, the achievement of my plan can be measured. I have made much improvement in studies. I have also covered the entire syllabus of the course and would be ready to study some extra study material for better references for my examinations. We have seen examples where a leader gets annoyed and use abusive words which are intolerable for a follower; in such cases a follower should challenge these flaws with a firm attitude. This can also help the leader in making his leadership behavior more accurate and effective. The followers respect and commitment plays a great deal in an organization. A good follower is a good leader in the future; it gives cohesive grounds to the person and he could implement all the ideas and strategies he experienced in his past. We now need practical, convenient examples of great leaders. We have seen many and still the world asks for more. Organizations can achieve good leaders if they arrange proper training programs for the top-level managers so that they could implement new strategies in the department. The training programs should include about the decision making process within time boundaries and effective use of recourses. Training should include; on the job and off the job training programs and a sensible use of such training in everyday assessment. Leaders should know about the different roles they play in an organization. They should have a straightforward and precise idea of what role to be implemented in what situation. If the decision is about an acquisition of a fixed-asset; the leader should know how and where is to be purchased and he should also have a keen knowledge about the budget as well. But when a decision is to taken in a war, a leader has to be quick and sharp and should order his team in a millisecond. A leader can be a liaison, resource manager, an initiator, a trouble shooter etc. As Kotler mentions that a leader is the one who copes up with change, as change is always resisted at first and is not welcomed by the employees so it is the role of a leader that how he motivates his team to accept the change because it hinders progress. Stephen P. Robbins also states that there are six important tactics that need to be implemented in order to accept the change, the tactics are: communication, education, facilitation and support, negotiation, participation, manipulation and cooptation. 6 New Years Resolutions for the Lazy Professional We all get a little lazy sometimes. Or rather, we get a little too comfortable in our jobs, and things start to slide ever so slightly. As you get ready to make your resolutions for the new year, think about doing some super-easy things to start 2017. And think how accomplished you’ll feel when you check them off! 1. Make inroads with one coworker.If you find you’re having lunch with the same peeps every day or you stand awkwardly silent at the copier while another colleague does the same, aim to connect with a  new person. You don’t have to become BFFs, but a little coworker bonding outside your comfort zone is not only good for you, it’s good for workplace morale in general.2. Set a distraction-free hour each day.We’re all champs at multitasking these days. You can run reports while checking voicemail and also checking Facebook. I get it. I do it too. But what if you gave something your whole attention for just one hour? That means no checking F unCelebrityNewz.com, or personal email, or whatever your biggest distraction temptation is. It will still be there when you go back, and you might find that your hour of focus helps you find solutions you might not have seen if you were trying to do four things at once.3. Walk around your office.This one sounds weird, I know. This doesn’t mean â€Å"be a creeper who stands at the edge of someone else’s cubicle.† But every once in a while, take a lap around your office when you have a few spare minutes. The obvious benefit is that it gets you away from your desk for a bit, but it’s also nice to see your colleagues at work. We can get so mired in our own day-to-day stuff that it gets easy to forget that everyone is working toward a common goal. Step back and look at your beehive, and it might re-energize your feelings about your role there. (Or make you want to realize you want to get out and go to a different hive, stat.)4. Check your voicemail.You know, t hat one message that’s been hanging around forever, the one you skipped at the time for whatever reason and is now haunting your phone like Jacob Marley’s ghost? Even if it’s not a relevant to-do, listen to the whole thing, then delete. Satisfying!5. Take down your OOO.Don’t be That Guy who has his â€Å"out of office† message up three days after he got back from vacation. Nothing tells bosses and colleagues â€Å"I don’t want to be here† quite like a zippy â€Å"I’m out!† message when everybody knows you’re sitting at your desk.6. Think about your goals for the year.Don’t write anything down, don’t create a PowerPoint. Just think about what you want to achieve. You can even use part of your distraction-free hour to do this! Of course, at some point you’ll probably need to take concrete steps to make said goals happen, but for now just think about it. You’d be surprised how many people don’t take the time to think through their wants and goals, and that makes it tough when you’re put on the spot when it’s review time, or when you really need to make a career change.You’ve  got this. Families often disappear between one census and the next; records are lost or destroyed through mishandling, fire, war, and flood; and sometimes the facts you do find just dont make sense. When your family history research hits a dead-end, organize your facts and try one of these popular brick wall-busting tactics. Review What You Already Have I know. It seems basic. But I cant stress enough how many brick walls are breached with information that the researcher already has tucked away in notes, files, boxes or on the computer. Information that you found a few years ago may include names, dates or other details that now provide clues given new facts that youve since uncovered. Organizing your files and reviewing your information and evidence may uncover just the clue youre looking for. Go Back to the Original Source Many of us are guilty when transcribing information or recording notes of only including the information we deem important at the time. You may have kept the names and dates from that old census record, but did you also keep track of other information such as years of marriage and country of parents origin? Did you record the names of the neighbors? Or, perhaps, you misread a name or misinterpreted a relationship? If you havent already, be sure to go back to the original records, making complete copies and transcriptions and recording all clues - however unimportant they may seem right now. Broaden Your Search When youre stuck on a particular ancestor, a good strategy is to extend your search to family members and neighbors. When you cant find a birth record for your ancestor that lists his/her parents, maybe you can locate one for a sibling. Or, when youve lost a family between census years, try looking for their neighbors. You may be able to identify a migration pattern, or a mis-indexed census entry that way. Often referred to as cluster genealogy, this research process can often get you past tough brick walls. Question and Verify Many brick walls are built from incorrect data. In other words, your sources may be leading you in the wrong direction through their inaccuracy. Published sources often contain transcription errors, while even original documents may contain misinformation, whether purposefully or accidentally given. Try to find at least three records to verify any facts that you already know and judge the quality of your data based on the weight of the evidence. Check Name Variations Your brick wall may just be something as simple as looking for the wrong name. Variations of last names can make research complicated, but be sure to check all spelling options. Soundex is a first step, but you cant count on it entirely - some name variations can actually result in different soundex codes. Not only can the surnames be different, but the given name may be different as well. Ive found records recorded under initials, middle names, nicknames, etc. Get creative with name spellings and variations and cover all the possibilities. Learn Your Boundaries Even though you know that your ancestor lived on the same farm, you may still be looking in the wrong jurisdiction for your ancestor. Town, county, state, and even country boundaries have changed over time as populations grew or political authority changed hands. Records were also not always registered in the locality where your ancestors lived. In Pennsylvania, for example, births and deaths can be registered in any county, and many of my Cambria county ancestors records were actually located in neighboring Clearfield county because they lived closer to that county seat and found it a more convenient trip. So, bone up on your historical geography and you just may find a new route around your brick wall. Ask for Help Fresh eyes can often see beyond brick walls, so try bouncing your theories off other researchers. Post a query to a Web site or mailing list which focuses on the locality in which the family lived, check with members of the local historical or genealogical society, or just talk through it with someone else who loves family history research. The issues which Martin lays out against Hays' article are : â€Å"1) the claim that the etiology of homosexuality, according to Paul, lies in the corruption of universal human nature that occurred in the fall; 2) the assumption that Paul is differentiating homosexual desire from heterosexual desire in Romans I ascribing the former to the fall and the latter to pristine creation; and 3) the importation of a modern concept of acts â€Å"contrary to nature† when explaining Paul's term para physin†. Dealing with the first point of the etiology of homosexuality, we scrutinize the argument presented by each scholar. Hays asserts that â€Å"depravities follow from the radical rebellion of the creature against the creator†, that is, all of humankind has fallen in God's eyes by refusing to recognize Him as the Creator and thus arousing His wrath. Hays also contends that God's wrath "takes the ironic form of allowing them the freedom to have their own way", and that "idolatry debases both the worshiper and the idol". Thus, Hays says that homosexuality is the symptom of mankind's fall, their refusal to accept God as their true creator and that " Paul's choice of homosexuality as an illustration of human depravity is not merely random: it serves his rhetorical purposes by providing a vivid image of humanity's primal rejection of the sovereignty of God the creator". To support his claim, Hays brings in the references of Genesis, where "the complementarity of male and female is given theological grounding in God's creative activity". The Gen 2:18-24 is quoted, where man and woman are intended to "become one flesh". 1)b. Etiology of Homosexuality: Martin Martin interprets the origins of homosexuality in much more specific terms, and takes the references of homosexuality in the Jewish tradition of Paul's time, and relates homosexuality to the origin of idolatry and polytheism "at some point after the time of Adam: rabbinic sources variously ascribe the invention of idolatry to Kenan, Enosh(son of Seth) or the people of Enosh's generation", especially amongst the Gentiles and he supports his interpretation by using the example of the book of Jubilees. In Romans I, Paul refers not to Adam or "he", a single person, but to "they"." The Aim and Importance of Literacy and Numeracy Essay Literacy and numeracy are an extremely important part of everyday life and the 2 key subjects taught in school; Literacy is the basis of communication, Speaking Listen, along with Reading and Writing. We speak to and listen to people all the time and we contact people we can’t speak to by letter or email. Then numeracy is in the very least the centre of problem solving; money handling; weighing and measuring along with handling data which we all do on a near daily basis, with activities such as: cooking, shopping and keeping check on our bills and bank account . It is important that every child develops these skills as early on as possible so the foundations are there to build on as they get older. For the majority of children this should begin at home with family members talking as much as possible with them to encourage their speech and crayons to scribble and gradually inspire them to write their name etc. Parents can count things with them and sing counting songs to promote understanding of numbers and by the time a child starts school/pre-school they should be read to daily. The aim is to make sure every student can effectively access literacy and numeracy from a young age as it will later be important across the curriculum. Regardless of their ability work should be tailored to meet their specific needs. It is also to promote numeracy and literacy skills in their everyday situations by introducing activities and events which are suitable to their requirements and cover the planned outcomes. All young people need to develop these abilities in order to progress in their learning and education as well as developing their life and social skills ready for  most students to successfully gain employment and or to lead independent lives. Numeracy is applied across the curriculum in several ways: In science and cooking, with the use of weights and measures, timing, problem solving and calculations, science also covers data handling and predictions along with the use of graphs. It is also promoted in activities such as shopping and using a cafe where students have to recognise money; calculate amounts; work out which coins they need and how much change should be given. It is introduce in practical activities  such as wood work where students plan and design something they will make, they measure wood, count screws and possibly use problem solving during the activity if it doesn’t go to plan. Students may be encouraged to grow plants, so they can measure and record growth along with plotting the recordings and showing this in a graph. They are encouraged to analyse the data and explain their findings. Other examples of numeracy across the curriculum are geography, history and PE. Geography may be using graphs to see such things as rainfall through out a year or in different places, so  reading and understanding data is required, and history may use numeracy by putting events in chronological date order and knowing which occurred fist etc. PE uses measurement in high jump, long jump, discuss, javelin and any other activity where distance or height need recording. Numeracy skills involving money management, addition, subtraction, weights, area, space and measure will be implemented in daily life when shopping, paying bills, checking wages and bank account transactions, along with planning meals, cooking, decorating, ordering curtains, gardening and most DIY projects. Literacy is more easily promoted across the curriculum as all lessons and activities involve speaking and listening which is generally the main form of communication, and most will involve reading and writing. The majority of mainstream subjects implicate reading a text book, so good reading skills are essential. Many instructions for work to be completed are given orally and listening skills are required. Students need to be able to ask or answer questions verbally; higher order questioning may be used to ascertain knowledge and understanding and to provoke more  independent thinking, so speaking and listening abilities are used here. Good reading skills also help students with their spellings when writing which helps with presentation in every subject. Strong and confident reading and writing skills will enhance the student’s interpretation of exam papers and lead to better qualifications being gained at the end of their education. Our young people are encouraged to take part in verbal dialogue as much as possible, often prompted by questioning which should be aimed at the student’s level; this promotes their listening  skills as well as their speaking. Some students use PECs to communicate to other, but these students are still verbally and gesturally prompted to speak. Students are encouraged to ask for things they need, rather than it just being given to them, which is done to promote their communication capabilities. Literacy skills involving Speaking, listening, reading and writing will be implemented in everyday life when communicating, whether in a verbal conversation or via a social networking site, or in correspondences such as a letter or email. In conclusion, numeracy and literacy are the basis to everyday life, so strong foundations need to be established as early as possible to ensure a strong structure to build up on, in order to develop the essential skills for a successful education and more importantly for the life skills we all require to maintain a good standard of independent living as adults. Every effort should be made to ensure all students develop the capability to communicate to the best of their ability as soon as possible, as this is crucial to the continued development of their learning, independence and their  social skills, as well as an effective life after school. The delivery of literacy and numeracy should enhance student’s confidence and individuality along with their personal and social skills. All outcomes, achievements and progress should be clearly recorded with indicators of the next step to be delivered to the young person. With the use of a personal learning plan work should be resourced to meet the level and needs of a student. Numeracy and literacy can be introduced in each subject or task at the appropriate level and often implemented in a practical manor if necessary.

Antonio Lopez

Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born on March 21, 1794 in Jalapa, Vera Cruz and died in 1876, in Mexico City. Santa Anna had started in the military in 1810 as a cadet at the age of 16, and was promoted to Brigadier General in 1822. In 1828 Santa Anna became the governor of Vera Cruz. He became governor again in Vera Cruz in the year 1829. Then in 1833 he was elected the president of Mexico. Santa Anna led the Mexican attack on the Alamo in Texas in the year 1835. Santa Anna eventually captured the Alamo. The Texans recorded 257 deaths and the Mexican Army had between 400-600 deaths.Later on his carelessness in the end allowed Sam Houston to win the battle of San Jacinto. Santa Anna was able to gain back his authority when the French invaded Vera Cruz in 1838. He was considered a hero after he had many horses shot from underneath him and lost half of his left leg. In 1842 he arranged ceremony to find his foot and parade it in Mexico City and placed it as a monument for everyone to se e. Santa Anna fought in the Mexican War and sold land to the United States called the Gadsden Purchase in 1853.In 1854 a young officer named Bonito Juarez banned Santa Anna from Mexico for ten years and Santa Anna later returned before his death. He was driven out of Mexico for having too much power and control over the country. He later returned to Mexico in 1867. He once again tried to regain more power in 1867. Before he could he was taken prisoner and condemned to the firing squad. Instead he and his family were exiled out of Mexico. He then returned to Mexico in 1874 and then died two years later at the age of 82. Santa Anna was significant to the Spanish world because he believed and fought for his country.He was also important to the Spanish world because he was a dictator of Mexico for many years. He served in the military, was president eleven times of Mexico, and was the governor of Vera Cruz twice. Santa Anna was also important because he was forced to give land to the Un ited States called the Gadsden Purchase. He led the Mexican army to attack the Alamo and was also the leader in that battle. He had defeated many armies and leaders when he was serving in the military. Santa Anna was in the military for most of his life.All these things are important about Santa Anna and are important to the Spanish world. He was very important and no one will ever forget the famous Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and what he did. I think Santa Anna was a pretty brave man because he went through all of those battles for his country, had lost his leg, and was imprisoned in Sisal, Yucatan. I also think Santa Anna wanted way too much power because he kept trying to take over the military and the country. Also I think he deserved to be banned from the country for ten years because he was trying to get to much power.I think Santa Anna had a pretty unique life because he was president of Mexico, he was governor of Vera Cruz, and was high ranked in the military. I think Santa Anna did some weird things because he had set up a ceremony to find his lost leg and had set it up on a monument for everyone to see it and admire it. I think it was nice that his wife wanted to be buried with him before she died because that shows that his wife really cared about him. I have learned many things about Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna as in what he did and how he lived. He was one of the most famous Spanish people and I enjoyed learning about him.
